50/50 (2011) review

This story based on actual events and focuses on Adam a 27 year old who is diagnosed with a rare cancer of the spine which has a 50/50 survival rate. The movie examines the struggles associated not only with the disease itself but the affect it has on his relationship with friends, parents, girlfriend and therapist throughout the whole ordeal. The movie shows how peoples true colours are revealed in the darkest of times.

The film very successfully fulfils the role of a comedy drama by providing a light hearted approach to a serious situation without taking away the realness of the daunting time in Adams life. Actor Seth Rogen known for his comedy provides the film with humour which allows us to sit through the film without us feeling depressed the whole way through and this comedy aspect actually compliments the drama side of the film which involves some very intense scenes with Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who shows us the mental and physical struggles of a person facing life threatening illness.
